Betty Smithers Exhibition in conjunction with Staffs University

We are very excited to be joining forces with Staffs University to put on an exhibition at Newcastle-under-Lyme’s Borough Museum and Art Gallery next summer (2011) .

This exhibition is focussed on the Betty Smithers design collection that the university holds and they are presenting an exhibition of Betty Smithers clothes.  MTF have been invited to visit the collection at the University in Stoke-on-Trent, and to produce work in response to the collection which is to be exhibited together with the collection over the busy summer period.  Accompanying the exhibition will be fashion shows, and workshops designed to involve the local community and visitors.

We have already held one study day at the collection, and a further is scheduled for Friday 17th September 2010.  The exhibition is scheduled to run from 23rd July to 4th September 2011.

Welcome to the Midlands Textile Forum website

Hello and a warm welcome to the Midlands Textile Forum website.

The Midlands Textile Forum is a group of textile enthusiasts and professionals from all across the Midlands, both East and West, reaching as far north as Leek, in the Staffordshire Moorlands, and as far south as Stroud in Gloucestershire.  We provide various social and professional services for our members including Professional Development Days, and exhibition opportunities, as well as our popular Babble & Dabble days and visits to textiles collections around the region.

We hold a biennial selected exhibition, which occurs in even-numbered years, and a symposium.

On this website, we provide links to professional services and members, and textile partners.  If you would like to become a member and receive our quarterly newsletter, please contact Jane Arthur    jane.l.arthur@btinternet.com
