2010 MTF Exhibitions
This year, we had an exhibition from 26 Feb - 27 March in Evesham public library, which was very well received by the visiting public. This was an exhibition mounted by the members of the MTF committee, as a way of saying ‘thank you’ for giving up their time and energies to make the Forum a worthwhile organisation.
ANNOUNCING ‘EXOTICA’. NOW ON!!
Our main exhibition this year is Exotica. No, this is not a lingerie exhibition (sorry gents!!) but is based on study sessions based at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, so it is fitting that the venue is indeed the Birmingham Botanical Gardens! The exhibition shows work inspired by all aspects of the Gardens, not just plant-life, and is an interesting look through artists’ eyes at a familiar family-oriented local attraction. The dates are : 5th - 30th September,
Taking place in the Gallery of the Botanical Gardens, there are 22 pieces created by 17 artists, and showing diverse responses to the Botanical Gardens.
There is a free catalogue, available from Julie Ring (P&P payable if sent out by post), which details every piece. Most of the work can also be bought, with a 10% deposit reserving the item until the end of the show.
Do come along and see for yourself how nature, engineering, science and art all walk hand-in-hand!
Here are a few images from the exhibition….
These images don’t do the work justice, so if you can, go along to the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham before 30th September to enjoy them at their best!!
I can also give you advanced notice of a major exhibition partnership between us, and Staffs University, to be held at the Borough Museum & Art Gallery, Newcastle-under-Lyme, next year. This is a very exciting development for us, as we have been invited by the arts team at Newcastle and Staffs University to respond creatively to a wonderful collection that the university holds, called the Betty Smithers Design Collection. We are having two group study days, and also individual study days, to browse through the collection held at Staffs University Cadman Building in Stoke-on-Trent. We will make pieces in response to what we see and select, and those pieces will be shown over the entire summer holiday period at Borough Museum & Art Gallery. This lovely gallery is set in Brampton Park, right near the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme, and is a place that attracts many families from babies (with mums, dads and grannies!!) right through. The opportunity exists to offer workshops and lectures, and for visitors to purchase small pieces from the Museum Shop. I will, of course, post more information as we get closer to the event…..
