Helen Lane
I am a Birmingham based textile artist and tutor and although I have always been passionate about textiles, my recent retirement should hopefully enable me to dedicate more time for research to develop my own work. I am delighted to be a new member of MTF.
For many years the same elements run through my work, namely multiples, repetition, conceal and reveal. The expectation and anticipation of not quite seeing, reaching, or understanding interests me.
My degree is in Surface Decoration and I particularly enjoy experimenting with a large variety of techniques using colour, print and stitch, both hand and machine, but my favourites are those with unpredictable results- ice dyeing, rust dyeing, breakdown printing, cyanotype, eco dyeing and more.
I also take inspiration from my travels, in particular from recent trips to Japan, Morocco, India and Istanbul and recently made quilts inspired from around the World including African Kawandi, Korean Bojagi and Hawaiian quilting
